The everyday pantry

Keep your pantry inventory up to date.

Add what came home. Record what you used. Give the list a small reality check before the next shop.

Aim for a list you can act on

A detailed inventory is not much help if it says there is milk when the bottle is empty. Begin with food you often forget or buy twice. You can add cupboard staples later, once checking and updating the list fits your routine.

iGarde needs your updates. A receipt describes what you bought, not what is still in the fridge. A shelf photo is also a moment in time; it does not establish what happened to a food afterwards.

After shopping: review before adding

Scan a paper receipt, choose a receipt image, or add items by hand. Review what was found before applying it to Pantry.

  • Check the food name. A shortened till description can match the wrong ingredient. Remove non-food lines and anything you do not want to track.
  • Check the amount and unit. Two packs of 500 g are not the same as two grams. Choose an amount you can understand when part of the food is gone.
  • Check the dates and storage. Use the package information and record where the food actually goes. Receipts usually do not contain the individual pack’s use-by date.
  • Check whether it is already there. Do not apply the same shopping receipt again to fix one entry. Edit that entry instead, and check for duplicates if you have added food by hand too.

After cooking: record the amount that went

In Pantry, swipe a food to find Used some. Choose ¼, ½, ¾ or All, check the preview, then tap Mark used. The fraction applies to the amount currently left, not the original pack.

Example: a 500 g bag of rice

You use 250 g. Choose ½ of the available 500 g; 250 g remains.

Another day you use 125 g. Choose ½ again; this time it means half of the remaining 250 g. The pantry should now show 125 g.

For an amount that does not fit the quick choices, edit the remaining quantity to match what is actually left. If you choose the wrong action, use the Undo message while it is visible.

Use Used it up when it is all gone. If food went in the bin, record it as Binned so it is not counted as food used. Today also offers Used, Binned and Still have for its daily check.

Avoid recording the same meal twice

With iGarde Plus, tapping Done on the final Cook Mode step updates matched pantry quantities. Check the result before making another manual use update for those same ingredients.

If two people use a shared pantry, agree who records the meal. Shared information helps only when everyone follows the same routine. Household creation and sync require Plus and an account.

Before the next shop: a small reset

You do not need to reconstruct every snack you forgot to log. Start with the items that will affect your next shopping list.

  1. Compare the list with the fridge and the open packs you plan to use.
  2. Correct quantities that have drifted. Keep separate batches clear when their dates differ.
  3. Mark food Used or Binned when you know what happened to it. Do not invent a use or waste history just to tidy an incorrect entry.
  4. Review dates against the packaging. “Still have” confirms the item is there; it is not a food-safety judgement.
  5. Use the corrected list to plan a shop around what you already have.

This everyday routine is free

Pantry, Today, expiry reminders, everyday use updates, on-device receipt scanning, shopping list and Insights are free with no time limit. Insights reflects recorded use and waste with receipt-derived values; it is not a verified bank-account saving.

Recipes, Cook Mode, weekly planning, household creation and sync, and optional AI receipt cleanup are Plus features. The first shelf scan is free; later shelf scans require Plus and are subject to usage limits. Optional AI processing asks for permission first. Read how iGarde handles your data.
