Common questions

How do I set up my pantry quickly?

Tap the in the middle of the tab bar. If Update Kitchen is available for your account, choose Open Update Kitchen to start from a receipt, an enabled file or visual route, or manual entry. Otherwise choose Snap a shelf, Scan a receipt, or Add by hand. Suggestions are shown for review before they change your pantry during the initial rollout.

Why is an Update Kitchen option unavailable?

Unified Intake is being opened one source at a time. Availability is checked securely for your signed-in account and household, so a route can remain disabled while its retention, cost and reliability checks are completed. Receipt/manual comes first, followed by files, the Share menu, photos and selected video frames. Automatic application remains off for the initial rollout. Updating or reinstalling the app does not override a disabled server flag.

A receipt or shelf scan didn't read correctly

For a receipt, lay it flat in good light and keep the whole page in frame. iGarde reads it on your device. If you grant the current receipt-text permission for an eligible Plus request, only the reconstructed receipt text and local matches — never the receipt image, PDF or file — are sent to Anthropic in the United States. Visual scans are different: selected shelf or kitchen photos are sent only under the separate visual permission. Both paths show suggestions for review; correct or untick anything that is wrong.

What happens when I choose a short kitchen video?

When that controlled-rollout source is enabled, select a video of up to 60 seconds. After you grant the current visual permission, iGarde chooses up to 12 still frames on your iPhone and uploads those frames for analysis by Anthropic in the United States. The original video and its audio are not uploaded. A frame can show that food is present; iGarde never removes an item merely because it was not visible.

Do I need an account?

No. Your core pantry, receipt scanning and manual entry work offline without an account. Signing in (Sign in with Apple, Google, or an email magic-link) is needed to back up your pantry, sync across devices, share with your household, use the household-scoped Update Kitchen queue or run “Snap your shelf”. Visual AI also requires the current in-app permission before a selected photo is sent.

How do I share a pantry with my household?

Sign in, then open Settings → Household. Tap Create invite to generate a code to send to someone you live with, or Join to enter a code you've been given. From the same screen you can see who's in the household, promote a member to owner, remove a member, or leave the household. Items already on a device stay on that device when someone leaves.

What does the Insights screen show?

Open Insights from the avatar menu (top-right) or the Insights → link on the Today screen. It totals what you've used in time versus what you've had to bin — as item counts and as pounds saved vs. wasted — broken down by category. The numbers start filling in as soon as you mark items Used or Binned on the Today screen.

Expiry reminders aren't arriving

Turn on Settings → Reminders → Expiry notifications and allow notifications when prompted. iGarde schedules a local reminder the day before an item is due to expire. If you've changed a lot of items, tap Refresh scheduled reminders. Reminders are local to your device — they don't require an account.

How does Share to iGarde work?

When the Share Extension source is enabled, share a supported receipt screenshot or other image from another app to iGarde. The extension first stages it only in iGarde's protected shared container on that iPhone; it does not upload it or contact Anthropic. Open iGarde, review the pending handoff and choose whether to continue. It is bound to the account and household that enabled sharing, and an unused handoff expires within 7 days. Choose a PDF from inside Update Kitchen instead.

How do I add a digital receipt?

Share a receipt screenshot or other supported image and choose iGarde, or save it and choose it from Update Kitchen → Choose receipt photos. For a PDF, use Update Kitchen's in-app file picker. Share to iGarde stages images securely on that iPhone until you open the app and continue. Every route leads to Kitchen Inbox review before anything changes your pantry.

Can I decline or withdraw AI processing?

Yes. Before the first receipt-text or visual transfer, and whenever that disclosure version changes, choose Not now and nothing from that action is sent to Anthropic. If you choose Continue and send, that permission remains current for the category until you withdraw it under Settings → Privacy; the server checks it again before provider work. Manual entry and on-device receipt reading remain available. A provider request already started cannot be recalled, but iGarde-held evidence follows the deletion periods in the Privacy Policy.

What data does iGarde collect, and can I turn it off?

No ads and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Optional product-usage events are off until you enable Settings → Share anonymous usage data; if enabled they use a random install ID. Separately, the iOS app sends minimal anonymous operational diagnostics to our Supabase project. Product analytics, diagnostics and feedback expire after 90 days. Receipt text is read on your device; with current receipt-text permission, an eligible Plus cleanup sends only that text and local matches — not the image or PDF — to Anthropic in the United States. Visual routes use a separate permission and send photos you choose, or still frames iGarde selects on your device from a video you choose; the original video and its audio are never sent. Successful or cancelled non-receipt Unified Intake evidence is queued for deletion within 24 hours, recoverable failures within 7 days, and receipt images within 30 days. Anthropic normally deletes commercial API inputs and outputs within 30 days, subject to limited policy/legal exceptions. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

How do I manage or cancel my iGarde Plus subscription?

iGarde Plus is an auto-renewable subscription with monthly and yearly plans; current prices and any introductory-offer eligibility are shown in the app. It is billed through your Apple ID. To manage or cancel, open Settings on your iPhone → your name → Subscriptions → iGarde (or in the App Store app, tap your avatar → Subscriptions) — cancelling stops the renewal and Plus stays active until the end of the paid period. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you've re-installed or switched devices, tap Restore purchases on the paywall or in Settings → iGarde Plus.

How do I export or delete my data?

Open Settings → Data. Export local data creates a JSON file containing pantry items, recipes, meals and shopping-list entries; Export cloud data is available while signed in and includes Unified Intake records once that rollout layer is enabled. Delete local data removes the local database content, Unified Intake queue and pending Share-menu handoffs, plus the other local queues and preferences listed in the Privacy Policy. It keeps your sign-in session, usage-sharing choice, notification consent and ordinary app preferences. Delete account and cloud data deletes your auth account and account-scoped rows, deletes a sole-member household and its intake evidence, removes your access while preserving shared rows when other household members remain, purges owned receipt/intake storage and signs you out. Limited de-linked financial/audit records remain as explained in the Privacy Policy.
